Chemically effective filter peat lowers the pH value and reduces water hardness
EHEIM TORFpellets consist of naturally acidic, specially treated peat. This is rich in valuable substances such as humic substances and trace elements (therefore do not wash out). Peat pellets lower the pH value of the water (acidified) and thus reduce the water hardness. However, the pellets should only be used if the pH value (necessary for the fish species) is exceeded. Peat filtration is particularly suitable for tropical clear to black water
Chemical filter media
Depending on the type, chemical filter media influence the pH value and water hardness (peat) – or reduce the phosphate content and inhibit algae growth (phosphateout). The pH value of tap water is usually between 7.3 and 7.8, so it is slightly alkaline. However, most ornamental fish require rather acidic water – i.e. a pH value below 7.0. EHEIM TORFpellets lower the pH value and reduce water hardness.
